Title: Senior Geological Resource Modeller
Description: Senior Geological Resource Modeller Cornwall £27,000 - £35,000 This well established and forward thinking multidisciplinary practice seek to expand their geological offering in the South West. Their expertise and services cover mineral resource evaluation, mining engineering, mineral processing & metallurgy, mine waste management, geotechnical engineering, water management, environmental & social management, mine closure & post-mining regeneration. As their workload continues to develop they are seeking a Resource Geologist within the Mining/Geology team at the company undertaking a variety of consulting work, but primarily involved with resource modelling and reserve estimation utilising Datamine® software. The Team is currently working on a diverse selection of mining projects including scoping studies, technical due diligence, Pre- and Full Feasibility Studies as well as property valuations, mostly for private sector clients and banks, and often as part of a fund-raising exercise. This work is truly global, and as a company, they now operate in more than 70 countries. Our client expects all staff to play an active role in the functioning and development of their business and they encourage ideas, innovation and initiative. However, a particular note for this post is to develop the resource modelling/reserve estimation business to satisfy an expanding business area within the Company. The appointment will be at Senior Engineer level reporting to the Technical Director responsible for Geology/Resources. The job holder will be principally based at the company's offices near Truro, Cornwall, UK, but will on occasion be required to travel overseas for short periods to facilitate work. Responsibilities will include, in conjunction with other members of the Team, subject to your individual skills and experience demonstrated: " Review exploration data quality provide recommendations for improvements; " Determine appropriate modelling and estimation techniques; " Develop 3D geological models; " Conduct resource estimates to guide exploration activities; " Assist with production of periodic resource statements; " Mentoring and training team members to upgrade geological interpretation and modelling skills; " Undertaking pit optimization and NPV Scheduler work to derive reserve estimates; " Utilise basic financial models to assess projects; " Assist other departments and teams as required, helping to balance workloads and commitments; " Contribute to the management, activities and development of the mining/geology team and the company as a whole, and assist with achieving their business objectives and developing future strategies, and " Ensure work safety standards at all times throughout projects. In addition to the above, the job holder will also function as a general geologist which may entail undertaking a broad range of geologic activities. It is expected that you will be able to demonstrate enthusiasm and drive striving for excellence in all aspects of the position. You will be a team player and have the ability to help, motivate, develop and inspire others. Technical expertise, qualifications and experience are of course essential but attitude is paramount. They are a people business and it is the quality and attitude of their people that make the difference. The company are seeking individuals with a strong technical background to degree (preferably Masters) or equivalent level in Geology, Applied Geology, Mining Engineering or Mining Geology, and preferably some experience in the mining industry; specific knowledge of or interest in the metalliferous mining sector is essential. You should also demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit and a depth and breadth of experience in the mining industry appropriate to the demands of the grade as outlined above. Technical experience will be necessary in resource evaluation and the development of mining projects; experience with geological modelling will be essential. Excellent communication and report writing skills are key ideally coupled with project and team management skills. The rewards are good and include a very healthy salary and benefits package.
